On October 9th 2021, Mez Works had the opportunity to participate in a local fundraiser put on by The Hangar Taproom & Bottle Shop (@thehangar_laketahoe) to benefit Sierra at Tahoe ski resort in the aftermath of the Caldor fire that caused devastating consequences as it ripped through the mountains of El Dorado County, burning through over 200,000 acres and destroying over 500 structures throughout it’s path up hwy50. The fire started on August 17th, and as of October 12th is still an active fire with 91% containment but the experts expect full containment by October 16h. The resort suffered more damage than initially thought and engineers, arborists and Forest Service personnel have been inspecting trees weakened by the fire, chairlifts and other infrastructure. Sierra also lost a fleet of snowcats and the upper maintenance shop, causing the mountain to have to delay their opening day which is still unknown.

Sierra has been long time considered to be the “local’s mountain”, a favorite ski resort for many full-time Tahoe residents who have been frequenting the resort for decades as well as patrons from the Sacramento area and San Francisco Bay Area. The event turnout was more than expected, with raffle tickets generating more than $15,000 toward relief funds. The Hangar also donated 100% of their beverage and food sale proceeds to the cause.

We were proud to be a sponsor of the ‘Beer Relief’ fundraiser by donating one of our ‘Lookout’ coffee tables to their raffle - featuring a wide-set matte black powder-coated steel base with walnut tabletop that “floats” atop the base using 1/4” custom made risers - including a prize package complete with a few bags of coffee from Drink Coffee Do Stuff (@drinkcoffee_dostuff).

It was an awesome event featuring two ski movie premieres, with many other sponsors and generous donations that included snowboards and skis, restaurant and local business gift certificates, a ton of other gear and more! Many thanks to The Hangar for their amazing efforts and dedication to their favorite mountain, and to all who participated!
