DESIGN DESCRIPTION
The Woodridge is a study in contrast, balance, and the natural character of wood.
Highly figured California claro walnut, salvaged from slabbed tree trunks, forms the drawer fronts and lower shelf. The drawer fronts and shelf are bookmatched, resawn from the same board so that their grain and character are intimately connected. Their live-edge origins bring an element of natural irregularity to the otherwise structured design, allowing the wood itself to become part of the visual language of the piece.
That organic character is paired with dimensional, prime-grade walnut lumber throughout the case. Straight, uniform, and intentionally selected, the dimensional walnut provides the clean lines, strength, and structural clarity needed for the cabinet. Rather than trying to make the two materials look alike, the Woodridge allows their differences to work together. One carries the marks, movement, and individuality of a tree reclaimed from the past. The other represents the precision and consistency of purpose-grown lumber.
The result is a quiet balance between the natural and the refined, the irregular and the orderly. It is a distinctly wabi-sabi sensibility, where variation and imperfection are not something to conceal, but an essential part of the design.
A raw steel frame adds another layer of contrast. Its industrial character is deliberately juxtaposed against the warmth and organic movement of the walnut, giving the piece an architectural quality that allows it to feel equally at home in contemporary, traditional, or more eclectic interiors.
Soft-close drawers complete the design with a subtle touch of modern functionality.
