We have two different wood finish options to choose from, each having different durability properties and maintenance requirements:
1. HARDWAX-OIL FINISH | Our newest finish option, Osmo Polyx Oil is derived from natural plant oils and waxes, providing a hard-wearing and protective surface that is resistant to water, soda, wine, etc. The finish maintains the natural look and feel of the wood, all while offering protection. One major advantage to the hardwax oil is that it’s easily repairable/maintained, and can be spot repaired with no sanding necessary. We are in a transitional period in which we are trying to reduce the amount of toxins in the products we use, and not only are we committed to reducing the amount of VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) we emit for environmentally conscious reasons, but we are also trying to reduce the amount of toxins that our crew and clients are exposed to for health reasons. Eventually, we plan to phase out the conversion varnish entirely and only use the hardwax-oil finish, but for now we will offer both finish options.

2. CONVERSION VARNISH FINISH | In our earlier stages after trying out a dozen different finishes, we decided upon the conversion varnish in 2012 due to the desired sheen of the finish in conjunction with it's superior durability over previous products we tested, and additionally appealing was that it's a low-VOC product. The finish offers a nice satin sheen with an exceptional durable ‘film’ finish comprised of two coats. It is one of the most durable finishes available, yet it's chemical makeup allows for elasticity with seasonal wood movement. However, the finish is very difficult to repair in the event that any damages occur, where the wood would require being transported to a professional to refinish the entire piece to restore it to new condition, even if the damage is minor (as opposed to the Osmo hardwax oil finish outlined above, which is a quick and easy do-it-yourself fix). The process of applying the conversion varnish also much more laborious and time-consuming and thus adds additional costs to the project.
