This piece is composed of multiple unique properties, including being our first "reverse matched" tabletop. Rather than our typical bookmatch, which is the joining of two consecutive slabs that mirror each other from the center outward, we rotated one of the slabs 180 degrees and joined on the opposite edge. This process left a really cool gap on one end, which we filled with a clear epoxy to give a glazed over effect, allowing light to flow through the crack (shown in photos 2 & 3).

By joining two slabs that naturally varied from 17-20" in width prior to cutting, we were able to keep most of the sapwood coloring on the edges and where the join is, which created a beautiful contrasting blonde strip down the center of the table.

We've been referring to this particular piece as the "bullet table", as when the slab was first sanded we discovered a small metal circle that was lodged into the wood and eventually recognized it to be half of a bullet that must have been sawn in two when the tree was milled. The tree had grown around the bullet, and it was only by chance that it happened to be cut to where it was revealed.

1. CLEAR COAT FINISH | This will preserve the natural color of the steel, but will protect it from staining and rusting and requires no upkeep. The steel is ground and polished and will remain natural and bright.

LARGE - XXL | add +$175

2. POWDER-COAT FINISH | Powder-coating would allow us to achieve just about any color, matte or glossy. If you are unfamiliar with powder-coating, it is a free-flowing dry powder that is applied electrostatically and is then cured under heat to allow it to form a hard finish that it tougher than conventional paint. It's used mainly for coating auto parts, bike parts and outdoor furniture which require super durable and water resistant finishes. Colors are limitless, but typically our clients prefer a simple black powder-coat. We can arrange to have the legs professionally powder-coated by a pro steel shop in our neighborhood, who charges accordingly for different dimensions.

LARGE - XXL | add +$175

3. BLACK MAGIC PATINA FINISH + CLEAR COAT | As pictured in listing example photos | This finish is going to give off a more industrial look, bringing the color of the legs to a deeper/darker grey. Several hand-rubbed coats are applied to the steel legs, allowing drying times between and repeating the application several times until the desired color is reached. This process combines the patina and clear coat for maintenance-free durability.

LARGE - XXL | add +$225

Redwood logs/slabs vary in color from tree to tree. The center color can range anywhere from a deep/dark reddish-brown to a lighter, more strawberry-blonde coloring. We cannot guarantee the color of any custom piece, but we can do our best to scout out a piece of your preference.

Please be aware that redwood is a soft wood and must be treated with care and consideration.
