SUMMARY

We named this design the 'Insignia' as to reference the building in Seattle where the original table (and bench set) now reside. The concept for the 'Insignia' table was motivated by minimalist-modern design and inspiration that arose from an admiration for Nakashima-style trestle bases. With our traditional 'Mez Works' style, we used dimensional walnut with a steel stretcher through the center of the tabletop to trace our 'Zeeva' and ‘Martis’ series tables that adds an industrial element. The leaf mechanisms are drop leaf supports that are solidly built, structurally stable and sturdy to eliminate sagging. They lock in place automatically when raised, and are simple and quick to release.

This design is very versatile and can be purposed as use for a console table, desk and dining table. While folded down, the drop leaf can hide a charging outlet, while power is integrated by feeding the cord through the base all the way out through the bottom to a fixed outlet in the floor (upgrade option).

This design is completely customizable and can be made in a variety of materials and finishes, and can be paired with a matching bench.

Pricing above reflects the cost for the use of “common” grade dimensional walnut, which is a more “rustic” looking grade of material with characteristics that include knots, slight traces of sapwood and color variation, and overall more wild in character and grain pattern. Some of the pieces shown in the listing example images were made using “prime” grade dimensional walnut, which is a higher grade of FSC-certified lumber sourced from the heartwood of the tree with characteristics that include few knots, minimal sapwood or color variation, and mild/mellow grain patterns. The prime grade material is more expensive for us to source than common grade material. Added costs are reflected below per size/material.

ECO-FRIENDLY HARDWAX OIL FINISH    |  Our preferred finishing method and product, made from environmentally-friendly components for eco-conscious customers. Osmo Polyx Oil is derived from natural plant oils and waxes, providing a hard-wearing and protective surface that is resistant to common liquid spills. The finish maintains the natural look and feel of the wood, all while offering protection and durability. One major advantage of hardwax oil is that it’s incredibly easy to repair/maintain, and in the event that minor signs of use occur the finish can be spot repaired with no overlap marks. With Osmo's maintenance liquid wax cleaner it's simple and quick to bring the finish "back to life" (products can be found here: Osmo Liquid Wax Cleaner and here: Osmo Hardwax Oil Finish). To avoid minor signs of use, we recommend using coasters under serveware containing hot or cold liquids as well as cleaning up spills so as to not leave any moisture to set in over long periods that can cause spots or rings to occur to maintain the condition of the wood. We are ever-committed to reducing the amount of VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) we emit during our production process for environmentally conscious reasons, and are also trying to reduce the amount of toxins that our crew is exposed to for health safety precautions. Additionally, the hardwax-oil is a rub-on application (vs. other harsher methods such as spray-on which causes the finish to become airborne), and can be continuously DIY applied to refresh the wood on your table.

Other wood finish options are available upon request including commercial grade finishes and outdoor finishes. Please use button link to review other wood finish options (pricing may vary).

Powder-coating allows us to achieve just about any color, matte or satin sheen. Powder-coating is a free-flowing dry powder that is applied electrostatically and is then cured under heat to allow it to form a hard finish that it tougher than conventional paint. It's used mainly for coating auto parts, bike parts and outdoor furniture which require super durable and water resistant finishes.

  • STOCK SOLID POWDER-COAT COLOR  |  Stock colors include satin black or matte black, silver, or dark bronze.
COST : +$0 (stock colors included in pricing)

  • SPECIAL ORDER SOLID POWDER-COAT COLOR  |  We can also custom order a color specific for your project through Prismatic Powders (costs may vary: https://www.prismaticpowders.com/shop/powder-coating-colors)
    UPGRADE COST : estimating +$15 - $25

  • CLEAR POWDER-COAT  |  A clear powder-coat requires attention to prepping the natural steel to a smooth surface feel before proceeding to seal it with a satin-clear powder-coat. Using a transparent finish you to see through to the natural color of the steel while also providing protection from staining and rusting, and requires no upkeep. The steel is ground and polished and will remain natural and bright. Some “imperfections” will show through with this finish option, embracing the natural character of raw steel and can have a slight bronze hue from the powder baking process.
    UPGRADE COST: +$95 - $125

  • BLACK MAGIC PATINA + CLEAR POWDER-COAT | This finish is going to give off a more industrial look, bringing the color of the legs to a deeper/darker grey. Several hand-rubbed coats are applied to the steel legs, allowing drying times between and repeating the application several times until the desired color is reached. This process combines the patina and clear coat for maintenance-free durability. Some “imperfections” will show through with this finish option, embracing the natural character of raw steel and can have a slight bronze hue from the powder baking process.
    UPGRADE COST : +$125 - $150

For use as a dining or kitchen table, bar or conference table: If you are unsure of the exact dimensions your needs require, please consider the following basic guidelines:

  • Provide each guest a minimum of 24” of personal space at the dining table (chairs range from apprx. 16-20" and require space on each side to allow guests to seat comfortably).

  • Add an extra 12 inches of length to the table at each end for those seated at the head and foot of the table for personal legroom.

  • Allow for at least 36 inches between the dining table and any walls or other furniture.

  • Keep the table legs/base in mind, whether they may impede seating or leg room or not on the sides of the table. If the legs prohibit a person from sitting right in front of them, subtract the dimensions of the leg from the overall length of the table side to determine the available space for seating.
